There are two sides of the model train hobby. Scale model railroading is that faction which seeks to accurately replicate a real railroad in miniature, and to replicate realistic operations. The toy train faction is willing to dispense with scale accuracy in favor of action and fun. It is for the toy train side of the hobby that the following layouts were designed. They are simple layouts that can be set up, wired and given scenery with relativer ease. An attractive and functional layout can be erected in a matter of hours, provided all materials are on hand. We say that these layouts are for kids. Indeed, they are for kids of all ages, including the over-40 Big Kids. Best of all, the trackplans take a nomical amount of space. Most will fit easily in a 4' by 8' or 5' by 9' area. Only the G and Standard Gauge layouts loom larger than 5' by 9', due to the larger dimensions of track and trains.
The layouts were designed to offer a variety of activities and allow multiple motorized unit and locomotive operation. They leave plenty of room for operating accessories, should you desire them. We have also included minaiture buildings, to give you one vision of how easily they may be scenicked. You may change the scenery and buildings as you see fit.
My one assumption in these designs is that you will be starting with one of the many train sets available. These plans buiuld on that original set by the addition of track, switches and accessories. Plans use the basic track available "off the shelf". Everything you need to know about wiring is included in a basic manual.
