These are various rank insignia for officers and non-commissioned officers of the German Army. The shoulder boards and collar tabs remained in use throughout the war. The small rectangular emblems with stripes had scatters use, and very little at that. It was intended for newer, plainer combat uniforms.
The German Army system of insignia is typical of European Armies in the first half of the 20th century. Though not identical, the insignia of other armies were often similar in principle.
