Here's the town square inside the small loop, with the rest of town spreading to one side while an industrial yard is on the other.

by widening the loops, we can run longer trains but have shorter sidings. The wider expanse comes to the fore in our example as a rural area complete with farms and woods. A log loader and sawmill are both appropriate accessories for the woodlands.

Here is a railway that can also act as if it were a point-to-point system. Our example puts a town inside the loops of track, while sidings are ready to serve a variety of industries. We envisions a mixed freight and commuter system. For commuter service, you can use anything from a small switcher with a combine to RDCs, PCC cars, trolleys or doodlebugs.

Loops and spurs. continuous and point-to-point. Great for freight drills, commuter trains and trams. The trick in our example was the fit a town amid accessories - not a bad trick! Our idea was to use this plan for a combined freight and commuter system. Using space between the loops adds a sense of distance and depth.
