4' by 6' Layout Plans

for

S - Trax S Gauge Track

S-Trax is a modern track system with a built-in roadbed.  It looks realistic, handles better than the old American Flyer, and is in current production.  Unfortunately, the track library has not caught up with new special track sections and such, which you can find on the S Helper Service website.  You can also make these layouts using American Flyer track, as the track geometry is the same.  However, American Flyer switches have their switch machines mounted so that in some cases, they may interfere with other track.  The S-Trax is less intrusive.

We have used Plasticville buildings and reproductions of American Flyer accessories.  These are readily available.  Plasticville was popular among S gaugers in the Postwar Era.  However, if you prefer buildings that are more scale, you can substitute Marx / K-line buildings or other S Scale structures.  We only use plasticville because we have it.  There are currently no libraries of other S scale structures.  Our intent is to give you an idea of how a layout with scenery and structures will look.

There are four layouts on this page, and four more that can be reached via a link near the bottom of this page

This oval type layout permits room for accessories.

With a farm at one end and woods all around, our sidings are like an industrial short line in the middle of the Pine Barrens.

A simple plan that lends itself to many themes.

In this case, we have used a small airport in the center of the railway.  You can comfortably place trackside accessories and still have room for scenery.

in some ways, this pike can work like a point-to-point system as well as continuous running.

Mountains serve to separate the various scenes.  On one side of the hill is a motel, and on the other, a "Springer condominium" (in other words, trailer park.). Accessories still have room at the layout's ends.
