Our Games and Favorites from Others

Sandy Hook Battle Games - very basic games, very simple, these were originally posted to introduce people to the hobby.  Advanced supplements are being produced for them.  These are what I remember of several games we used to play in the 70s, of our own design.  Definitely fun stuff!

Siege of Bodenburg - Medieval miniature game originally designed for Elastolin figures, this little wargame is plenty of fun. It is a siege game that requires a 6' by 6' area - not much room - yet allows for all kinds of action.  Unlike moist sieges, the game doesn't start at the moat.   Rules are adaptable to almost any type Medieval figure.  Works best with figures from 25mm to 54mm

Melee, Wizard, In the Labyrinth and Advanced rules Our favorite role-playing game  The Fantasy Trip began as three simple booklets: Melee for weapons combat, Wizard for magical combat, and Death Test for a pre-arranged adventure.  It evolved into a wonderful, practical system of gaming.  Sadly, the company broke up over internal friction, and the fellow who kept the rights pretty much disappeared.  There are few places left to get these rules.  A small but determined group supports this system, and it is a great way to get started.  Begin with Melee and Wizard.  In the Labyrinth is the "guts" of a great fantasy campaign game.  Advanced Wizard and Advanced melee add new elements to the games.

A Game for Ancients & Medievals: I bought a copy of this game for $4.00 in the 70s.  It has no publisher information or printing information, nor any copyright info.  Usually with something like that ,the rules are junk.  Not this time!  This is a nice set of rules for larger battles.  It is very well designed, playable and has the flavor of realism.  You can play anything from Ancient to the early Middle Ages, and perhaps beyond.

Little Wars and Floor Games by HG Wells.  Online versions of these classic boooks.  Little Wars was the fore-runner of modern wargaming, and is the classic treatise on toy soldier games.  Floor Games is another of Wells ingenious ideas.
