The figures illustrated here have a peculiar history. They came as part of a "package deal" wherein I acquired the magazines of Bob Bard. Bob was influential in both toy soldier collecting and wargaming. His 1957 book, "Making and Collecting Military Miniatures," went far in promoting both hobbies. Bard also published "Military Miniature Collector Magazine," which later became "Milihistriot". I was informed that along with the magazines and copyrights, a number of "1 inch tall medieval miniatures" were available. They were acquired along with the magazines and paperwork, so I bought them. Did these actually belong to Bob? Maybe. No one can ever be sure, either way. Bob was not so much a wargamer or collector as he was a writer and provider of miniatures and toy soldier hobby equipment.
The English Civil war figures were painted. I did not include pikemen in these photos, as their polearms had come loose. Despite being loose in a bag, then boxed and shipped to me, they had very little chipping.
