Toy Soldier Art

New Civil War and World War II soldiers
(New to us, that is!)

From a Castings silicon mold, looks to be a copy of a Holger Eriksson or Scruby miniature. Three different styles of Civil War uniform.

Cast from Dutkins molds. The middle soldier is about 54mm, the others are huge.

Two Rhode Islanders from the Castings / Rapaport single cavity metal mold.

Two Afrika Korps from Rapaport / Castings mold 68103. They are copies of Charbens figures. The right figure is from a Dunken mold, copy of Matchbox German infantry. His tunic and helmet cover are standard Wehrmacht camouflage.

Figure from Rapaport / Castings 3-cavity mold 6897, a copy of a Tim Mee World War II figure. Gas mask notwithstanding, one of the best animated poses ever. This figure is pure action.

Maybe the field gear looks a bit off, but the pose is dynamic and the sculpting good for this type of figure.

The molds from Castings Inc tend to produce a proportionate and realistically-posed figure. This holds true for their silicon molds and their single-cavity metal molds. Dutkins figures run from 54mm scale to larger, and have a caricature quality to them. Many of their early poses are unrealistic, such as the manner of firing a rifle. The Dunken Company molds are all copies of plastic soldiers.  Their World War II troops are mostly copies of Matchbox and Airfix 54mm scale. Their Civil War line is almost entirely Marx copies. The best homecast Civil War figures are in the silicon molds by Castings. Several are copies of figures by Imrie Risley, a top sculptor of high-quality miniatures.
