German Infantry Figures

So what do you do when you have more GI castings than you need? With a little filing and some shrewd paint work, you make something else. Here is an example of German infantry.  Fun to make and you do not even have to acquire a new set of molds. The converted figures pictured here came from the old Rapaport / Castings 3-cavity metal molds: two from #5674 Machine Gunner and Patrol Men, one from #6090 Mop Up Squad, one from #5673 Grenade Throwers, and the German officer from #68103.

From left to right: late-war German with MP44, converted from GI; German from Dunken mold, copy of Matchbox; Afrika Korps rifleman, converted from GI; Afrika Korps rifleman, converted from GI

The first figure on left has helmet painted, as was often done late in the war.  His pack was filed to make German messkit, gas mask canister and folded shelter half. Rifle magazine was bent for curved shape. His helmet and those of Afrika Korps were made by using a file.

Four Germans in Waffen SS camouflage, converted from GI figures by filing helmets and backpacks. Good paint tricks finish the job. These are from Castings / Rapaport 3-cavity metal molds.

These four Germans are painted in a style similar to that used by Authenticast, Comet and SAE. The first three are converted from GIs.  The fourth is from the Castings / Rapaport 3-cavity German mold.

Here we have a mess kit and shelter half worn atop an assault pack.  Just file and paint to achieve the effect
