Tinplate!


In the early years of toy trains, tinplate was a common ingredient.  Most locomotives were made of stamped steel or tin litho.  Here are some classic toy trains - all are in operating condition!

The Marx #994 locomotive is made of stamped metal.  This one was part of the #5942 set.  #994 was the last of the Marx tinplates.

The tender was originally designed for the Marx 'Commodore Vanderbilt"

The Marx #898 was a popular locomotive in its day.

These are the cars includes in the 5942 set with the #994 engine

The Marx  "Commodore Vanderbilt" with "covered wagon" tender.  Despite its age, it runs well

Both of these Commodore Vanderbilts are undergoing restoration.  Both run well, and it is worth restoring their appearance.

The Marx 593 usually has a cheaper motor without drive rods.  This rarer model has the better motor.  Note plastic boiler face.
