Ocean Grove Train Show 2004

Thor & Audrey's Tinplate World

This is the Fourth year that the Tinplate World has come to Ocean Grove.  This is a display of O Gauge and O27 trains.  The trains range from very old to very new.  Setting up is done the old-fashioned way.  Rather than bring layouts, we set up our layout on the spot using classic tubular track.  Every year, the layout is different. For 2004, we were able to put up a layout which had five trains operating at once.  There were two bumper-to-bumper track and three ovals.  Once again ,we brought such favorite accessories at the Lionel #45 gateman, the Marx tinplate operating crossing signals, the MTH and Marx crossing bell ringers, and the Mr. Christmas operating lighthouse, skiers and carousels.

As has been usual, the children were charmed by the trains.  We try to run them on tables which are low enough to allow small children to see the trains at eye level.

The Chessie F3 hauls the operating Coyote - Road Runner gondola past a small farm.  The trolley runs on an adjacent track.

The side layout features two loops of track, a bumper-to-bumper "L" and a spare staging area.  In front you can see the skier hill, with moving skiers.

The blue comet is in back, and the clown hand car is on the middle track.  There are the trees we decorated ourselves, and to the left back is the 45 Gateman accessory.

We were right near the door.  A small visitor stands in awe of the trains.

Here is a view of the whole set-up.  The train in the foreground has three operating cars: "ACME" gondola with Road runner and Wiley Coyote, Toy Story gondola with Buzz and Woody, and animated stock car with Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. The children reacted most to the Toy Story car.

Another view of the train.

You can see the Blue Comet on the far track ,wit ha trolley in the foreground.  To the right is the #52 Fire Car, a popular thing with children.
