Great as dock operations and additions to existing layouts.
I designed these layouts with a handful of locomotives in mind: the B&O's famous 0-4-0 Docksider tank engine, Porter diesel locomotive, 44 tonner and other industrial type locomotives. They can be used with larger Alco and EMD switchers such as the S2 and SW-9. All of these layouts have three factors in the design. They can stand alone as a port-side HO model railway, or easily be extended to make a larger layout, or be appended to an existing layout. Several come two versions: one for the Atlas 15" radius curves, and another using the common 18" curves. Switches used are the standard HO type found in many train sets (marked as gray), as well as #4 switches.
This simple 4' by 6' dockside layout uses Atlas 15" curves |
This version of preceding 4' by 6' layout uses 18" curves, resulting in differences |
This 4' by 6' dockside with 15" curves makes a simple addition to any layout. It works well with medium sized locomotives as well as small ones |
|
This 4' by 8' pike uses 18" curves. It is nice for both dock work and railcar ferries. The top siding would be the connection with the mainline freight carrier |
This version with 15" curves allows another siding. Top two sidings would be linked with mainline freight service |
This 4' by 6' dockside system used 15" curves. It is easily connected or expanded onto another layout. |
This version uses 18" curves. It is especially good for Docksider and Porter type locomotives. |
This 4' by 6' with 15" curves is fun for small locomotives like the Docksider and Porter. Upper sidings would be for freight from the mainline carrier |
Here is the version with 18" curves. |
