Excellent for continuous operation, switching and point-to-point work
This layout starts from an oval with 11" curves, and it uses #4 switches. It easily expands into a very complex system. Of course, we kept adding to it until we could add no more. You may wish to stop trackwork at some point, in favor of more interesting scenery. This layout expands incrementally, and will give you excellent continuous, switching and point-to-point style operation.
To the basic oval, we add four #4 switches to make a passing siding inside the oval, and extend to a parallel siding above. |
|
We build an off-shape oval around the original oval and then add sidings |
More sidings are possible on the outside left center and inside right. |
Two more sidings are added, one from the very center, one from top right. A train going in any direction can pull straight into a siding. |
One more siding in the very center, another from the right top, and doubling sidings in lower left. This layout allows continuous running, switching ,and can even be operated like a point-to-point system by a creative operator. |
