Fun Action layouts for American Flyer "S" gauge

5' by 9' track plans

The layouts illustrated here use American Flyer track combined with Plasticville structures and operating accessories from :Lionel and MTH Most of the operating items are reproductions of original American Flyer products. American Flyer was originally intended for a 5' by 9' surface, since early benchwork was based on the dimensions of a ping-pong table. 4' by 8' plywood was uncommon back then.

Note that some accessories might not be available to you. You can substitute other accessories for them. In some cases, accessories are reissued every so often.

American Flyer track is still available. However, if you prefer modern track, the S-Trax track made by the S helper Service is a high-quality roadbed track that has the same track geometry and can be used to make these layouts.

A classic-type layout which has loads of action.
