36" by 77" track plans
For doorway layouts, the most difficult O Gauge track system is that of MTH. With its roadbed, it tends to run a but wider than classic O. Equally vexing is the fact that MTH's track makes a very tight fir, allowing little "fudging" and no cutting whatsoever. Nonetheless, I have developed the following four examples. Do to limitation of our graphical track software, we are unable to reproduce buildings on these examples.
![]() This layout is fine for small freight drill operations, or a trolley run, or both. You have room to spot individual cars on sidings. ( 8) MTH 40-1002 O-31 curve ( 8) MTH 40-1001 10 inch straight ( 3) MTH 40-1005 O31 lefthand switch ( 1) MTH 40-1018 3.5 in straight ( 1) MTH 40-1017 4.25 in straight ( 4) MTH 40-1004 O31 righthand switch ( 3) MTH 40-1016 5.0 in straight ( 3) MTH 40-1024 bumper 12.95 Total of 31 pieces |
![]() Freight and transit can work together here. Designating one spur as a trolley line allows you to run a mixed operation. (10) MTH 40-1002 O-31 curve ( 7) MTH 40-1001 10 inch straight ( 4) MTH 40-1005 O31 lefthand switch ( 1) MTH 40-1018 3.5 in straight ( 1) MTH 40-1017 4.25 in straight ( 2) MTH 40-1004 O31 righthand switch ( 1) MTH 40-1016 5.0 in straight ( 2) MTH 40-1024 bumper Total of 28 pieces |
![]() The long line is good for bumper-to-bumper cars like the old fashioned O gauge trolley or the :#50 Work Gang Car". You can run another train at the same time. (10) MTH 40-1002 O-31 curve ( 9) MTH 40-1001 10 inch straight ( 3) MTH 40-1005 O31 lefthand switch ( 1) MTH 40-1016 5.0 in straight ( 3) MTH 40-1024 bumper ( 4) MTH 40-1004 O31 righthand switch ( 1) MTH 40-1012 5.5 inch half straight Total of 31 pieces |
![]() Loops like this make for good trolley and transit operations. (10) MTH 40-1002 O-31 curve ( 4) MTH 40-1001 10 inch straight ( 2) MTH 40-1005 O31 lefthand switch ( 4) MTH 40-1004 O31 righthand switch ( 1) MTH 40-1018 3.5 in straight ( 1) MTH 40-1016 5.0 in straight Total of 22 pieces |
