Four track plans for a 36" by 76" area
Standard O gauge track has a 31" diameter curve. Though too wide for a 30" door, it is great on the wider 36" surface. O curves are just wide enough to allow for longer trains. However, in our little layouts, size still matters. These are best used with classic 10" freight cars and 12" to 14" passenger cars or smaller. Likewise, the best locomotive types are smaller ones. I designed these with the classic F3 / F7 and Lionel #671 S2 Turbine steamer in mind. They will handle a variety of switchers, diesels and steam locomotives. Don't forget the motorized units. Trolleys, speeders and other small units are excellent choices for running these railways.
Simple siding and freight spurs accommodate operating accessories. This is nice for small trains. You can also run a motorized (such as a trolley) unit with a trains.

Sours on one end, a loop on the other. You can run a motorized unit and train at the same time with this layout! Also great for trackside accessories.

This crossover with spur is fine for small trains and trolleys.

This is one of the best little trolley layouts. It incorporates a "Figure Eight" inside. You can run two units on this fine track plan.
