Here you get a good look at the "refinery" area.
All -placement of operating accessories shown here is for maximum action.
From the walk-over, it looks like a miniature industrial park. |
This is a plain freight operation with sidings for shunting.
(10) MTH 40-1001 10 inch straight (12) MTH 40-1002 O-31 curve (3) MTH 40-1017 4.25 in straight (6) MTH 40-1004 O31 righthand switch (2) MTH 40-1005 O31 lefthand switch (2) MTH 40-1012 5.5 inch half straight (5) MTH 40-1018 3.5 in straight (4) MTH 40-1024 track bumper (1) MTH 10-1160 #165 magnet crane (1) MTH 30-9119 AF #787 log loader (1) MTH 30-9122 AF #796 sawmill (2) MTH 30-9111 operating freight platform (3) MTH 30-9096 city factory 179.85 (1) MTH 30-9033 #494 rotary beacon |
The industrial look is different here - it is not cramped, but spread evenly.
These sidings leave room for many different accessories.
Combined operations and multi-train operation can be challenging on this little railroad. |
Another plain freight pike which accommodates operating accessories.

Our version is strictly "freight yard", but you could use the same plan for a small city, suburbs or semi-rural area.
You can have longer runs on these curves.

An interesting pike that allows for some interesting runs. It can accommodate freight, commuter, shunting, streetcars - you name it. Our example is an urban pike
(8) MTH 40-1042 O42 curve (10) MTH 40-1002 O-31 curve (1) MTH 40-1007 45° cross (3) MTH 40-1004 O31 righthand switch (3) MTH 40-1001 10 inch straight (3) MTH 40-1005 O31 lefthand switch (1) MTH 40-1012 5.5 inch half straight (9) MTH 40-1018 3.5 in straight (1) MTH 40-1045 O42 half curve (3) MTH 40-1017 4.25 in straight (2) MTH 40-1043 O42 lefthand switch (2) MTH 40-1024 track bumper (2) MTH 30-9012 Corner Drug store (2) MTH 30-9035 Jewelry store (2) MTH 30-9056 Auto Parts store (2) MTH 30-9085 Train store (1) MTH 30-9096 city factory (2) MTH 30-9107 operating station platform (1) MTH 30-11051 AF#23772 water tower (8) MTH 30-1062 O-scale hexagonal lamp (5) MTH 30-1079 O-scale square lamp (1) MTH 30-9049 #395 floodlight(silver) (1) MTH 30-9033 #494 rotary beacon (2) Plasticville 1620 loading platform (2) Plasticville 1907 apartment house |
A tale of two cities? More like two city block separated by urban apartments.
The various curves in this pike allow long and short runs.
Our small city-scape is excellent for shorter car and loco types. You can have a field day with Classic O and O27 sized cars and equipment. |
Notes for the hobbyist: we have tried to use coordinating MTH accessories as much as possible on these Real Trax plans. However, we have also used other brands. In some cases, duplicate pieces were used. A good hobbyist can change the duplicated by using paint and graphics, giving different signs to stores, etc. As you can see, we pack a lot of action in these little railways. |
