The Long Island Railroad

We go slumming on that other Island

When you're used to modern, clean, comfortable and efficient railroads like the Staten Island RR, NJ Transit and Metro North, riding the Long Island railroad is like stepping into a mud bath.  Still and all, it's a major rail link for thousands of commuters who rely on it to get them from Points East to the Big Apple.  Here's what we caught!

Eastbound to Hempstead

Train to Ronkonkoma pulls out

An express to Manhattan across the platform
Small "D Yard" beside westbound platforms

One westbound leaves, the other waits

Closed waiting area

Closed waiting area - these are relatively new
Old waiting area behind stairs to overhead walkway

Looking east at switch tower

These iron power line "towers" are unique
