The gondola is used to haul almost anything from pipe loads to crates to scrap metal or coal. It is also favored by Maintenance of Way crews as a boom tender and general carry-all. Indeed, gondolas carry the widest variety of things. Anything that can be hauled in a hopper, a boxcar or on a regular flat can usually fit into a gondola.
