CONRAIL

Freehold Car Wreck

Monday, May 15, 2000

Yes, indeed!  While crossing Main Street from Throckmorton Street, the CONRAIL drill had a run-in with a dummy trying to 'beat the train."  The train won, sending the car into a nearby florist shop.  It blocked Main Street and the eastbound lane of Throckmorton Street for hours.  I managed to get pics minutes after the wreck.

Whose fault?

Obviously, the dope who tried to outrun a train bears the blame.

Who's the victim?

1) Passengers in the car, who had no control over the idiotic decision to play "beat the train."

2) The fellow in the florist shop.

3) Last but not least, the train crew, who had observed all safety precautions.

Safety precautions, no matter how good,  can never beat the propensity of a dummy to create a hazardous situation.
