Budget O27 Dogbone Layout

Here a simple dogbone grows step by step into a great layout for operators.

Here's an O27 layout that grows to fill a 4' by 12 area  It makes great use of the "dogbone" at the center for fancy running and switching.  You don't have to wait until it's complete to use it.  Start running trains right away, and keep[ running them.  As with all layouts in this series, adding more does not require shutting down for more than a few minutes.

We start with an O27 dogbone layout.

One switch and a 45 degree crossover make a spur.  One additional switch turns one siding into two.

Add a switch and track, and our spur becomes a loop.

Another switch makes our siding a passing siding inside the loop.

Two switches on the other end make an interesting loop.

Two switches inside the dogbone provide a short reversing track.

On the other end, one switch makes a siding, another switch makes a second siding.

One last switch on the upper left turns the outside siding into a loop.  This is a layout that's going to be a lot of fun!
