A very different way to expand on Layout #13
If your available space allows for lateral rather than linear expansion, you have some great possibilities. Because added track is done in increments, you can take as much time as you to expand without interrupting your train running.
This plan has added a 4' extension to the top right of the layout. One switch and track make a long spur line. |
You can add two switches, placing a reverse loop on the line. |
Alternative: The top spur is curves rather than straight. |
A second spur is curved. |
You can also add a small spur inside the loop. |
This expansion gives you the opportunity to run point-to-point while taking advantage of reverse looping on one end of the pike. As you can see, it is easy to build in small stages. Additions do not interrupt ongoing operations. |
