MPC Ring Hand Soldiers

When it comes to the MPC "ring hand" figures, a boy either loved or hated them.  They came in bags: olive drab soldiers and silver colored weapons and equipment.  These soldiers had to have helmets fitted, belts snapped on, and weapons inserted.  They lost their equipment easily, making play difficult.

I was of the faction that hated them.

Occasionally MPC would come up with a variant.  For example, they made a set of gold colored space helmets and weapons.  These were packed with the usual soldiers, who had been molded in various colors.  They looked ridiculous.

The first five poses on this page are their soldiers.

Some of their other figures were cast in olive drab and packed with soldiers.  Examples of these are included on this page.

I believe that the other figures were intended as firemen and perhaps police or other civilian rescue personnel.

MPC had made other ring hands for the Civil War, Wild West, Pirates and American Revolution

Earlier Ring Hands

Note the high boots.  These were cast in red and packed with toy fire trucks. First figure was often used as a stretcher bearer.

Though useful as soldiers when cast in green, the high boots indicate other duties

Very early ring hands

First and last man are in jumpsuits, a popular uniforms for combat pilots in the 1950s.  Middle man has long trousers and a buttoned tunic with pockets.

These two figures in long coats could be used as firemen,  Note long trousers instead of boots.
