Get an entire miniature community!
There are two exciting series of miniature buildings below: the PC whistleStop Towns and Villages, and the Small Houses for 25mm, 28mm 30mm, 40mm houses The PC Whistlestop are WMF format, and make entire miniature ciommunities. They were originally designed for model railroaders. The Small Houses are PDF and make a series of little buildings for wargamers.
The PC WhistleStop Downloadable Towns and Villages
The free downloads in the first section are complete miniature communities, They are designed and copyrighted by....me! Yes, I am proud to say that I drew tham all. Initially, the paper kits were a way to provide cat-resistant miniature buildings for the village under the Yule tree. If Kitty smashes one, just print up and assemble a replacement! We, once I started, I stayed up `til 3 a.m. making the first 20 buildings. The project snowballed into quite an assortment.
Each set includes 20 to 30 different structures. Just size them to fit your scale (we judge by the door - 1/2 inch to 9/16 for N, about 5/8 to 3/4 for TT (technically, 6.6 to 7.5 tenths of an inch), 3/4 to 7/8 for HO, about 1 inch for OO, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 for S, 15/8 to 1 3/4 for O, 2 1/2 to 2 5/8 for #1 (1/8 inch taller for 1/29) , 3 1/8 to 3 1/2 for 1/24 scale, and 3 3/4 to 3 7/8 for G. Of course, you would need a wide printer to make houses over 1/64 - S scale.
If you can't use WMF, go to a free software site (for instance, www.tucows.com) and find a free graphics conversion program. Tucows usually lists these within its multimedia listings. WMF works in Windows drawing and desktop publishing programs, but not Paint programs. You can find freeware draw programs from places like Tudogs. WMF does not work for the Mac, so Mac users will have to find a graphics converter. Sorry, folks, but these are free files and I already did a ton of work.. I don't have the extra webspace to carry another version of them.
Use the PC WhistleStop Guide listed under Scenery on this site for basics of using programs. Most files are self-explanatory. Some need a little figuring.
Be sure to download the roof file. Print it on colored paper, such as dark green, brown, terra cotta or dark gray. this makes for a good "roofing" to place atop your buildings.
(The Recent NeoPaint versions can handle WMF - get them through Tucows)
Most of all, Enjoy! And if you find these files useful, please email me to let me know. allgauge@bigfoot.com

To use these files, just download, unzip, and print from any color printer. These are zipped PDF files.
These files are in ZIP format. They contain PDF file for our European-style houses. The European Houses are based on the old "Village in a Bag" sets that were first sold in the 1960s. These sets had a handful of small buildings, somewhere between HO and N scale. They were likely meant for TT (1/120 in the US) The houses were in white or pastel colors, with red or dark roofs and contrasting windows and doors. Original plastic sets had window openings, but the current ones by IHC only have frames.
Downloads:
#1: a set of one-story houses, plus instructions and spare door
#3 Set of four two-story-buildings and a small shed.
Cut out the buildings, fold the appropriate tabs and tape together. Use the Euroroof files for rooftops, Euroroof1 is plain, so that you can print it on colored paper. The other three Roof files are colored, for using a color printer.
You may copy the files only for personal use, or use by teachers in K-12 schools for class projects.
Eurohouses are the buildings themselves. One-story houses come with all side of the house and extra doors.
Two-story houses are only half. You must print two copies to make a house.
The extra door is scaled slightly larger. If the door on the house looks too small with your figures, just cut out the larger door and glue it over the smaller. Some programs might let you cut and paste before printing. The smaller doors should be fine for 25mm figures and most 28mm and S Scale (1/64 scale) miniatures. However, for some 28mmm and for 30mm to 40mm and O Scale size (1/48), the larger door works better.
Assembly should be self-explanatory: just fold tabs and walls in the right spot, tape or glue together, and then add the roof. Use a light cardstock such as #67 bristol or #65 cover for added strength. You can also cut foam or wood to size and paste the printed pieces onto it.
